Exhibitor Campaigns…

In an age long before the introduction of the digital press pack, these campaign pamphlets would be distributed to Cinemas in advance of release.

Containing the Movie synopsis, cast info, competitions and ad. slicks of varying size – they would also be the source of ordering posters and 10×8 photographs. Increasingly scarce due to their fragility and the fact they were usually disposed of after use – this complete set, however, survives to this day in excellent condition…

 

Just The Beginning…

You have to hand it to the late Alexander Salkind – Only an old-school producer of his calibre would reserve no less than seven pages of legendary trade paper Variety (four shown, the remaining 3 consisting of the crystal shield artwork) to announce Superman III was in pre-production.

Salkind’s gift for publicity and association with Variety goes back as early as 1976, when preliminary announcements for the acquisition of the property from DC Comics started appearing followed up by the unprecedented news that the legendary Marlon Brando himself had signed up for the project.  These fragile ads on newspaper stock are now treasured records of film history and should be preserved as such…

 

Supercrew Style…

Procured at Collectors Fairs and The Propstore of London respectively, these unique production used sweatshirts are usually still in possession of those who wore them, making decades old genuine gear valuable both for sentimental and investment reasons.

Custom crew wear in the Superman movies can be seen as early as 1977 where production footage reveals the tradition of homemade-style printed t-shirts and sweaters gradually becoming more corporate and refined as the series progressed…

 

Super-Chirashi…

These awesome Japanese Movie flyers or ‘Chirashi’ (measuring approx. 25 1/2 x 18 1/2cm) are notable for their unique compositions, often differing greatly from their western counterparts. They are double-sided and exhibit more images and movie synopses and/or cast information on the rear. This is a rare and very collectable set from all four movies from my collection…
